ACTIVITIES

There are numerous activities in the area from local walks starting from Home Farm Cottages, to treks and hillwalking, and from sailing in nearby Tighnabruaich to pony trekking and golf.

Places to visit

Inverary Castle is a must – a 35 minute drive up towards Strachur and left at the junction of the A83. The seat of the clan Campbell and a visit to the Town Jail are also must-sees.

In season, approx. 10 miles away from Home Farm at Portavadie, a ferry runs to Tarbert on the Mull of Kintyre. After a wonderfully scenic crossing, you’ll find lots of places to explore on the other side, including the Crinan Canal.

Mount Stewart House on the Isle of Bute at Rothesay is the seat of the Marquis of Bute and is reached via the Colintraive Ferry, a very scenic run.

Tighnabruiach is reached by a spectacular road; be sure to stop off at the signposted viewpoint at the top of the hill and take in the breathtaking views down the Kyles of Bute towards the Firth of Clyde.

Local Amenities

The Sutlery (military name for a shop) is situated behind Home Farm Cottages and sells a range of convenience food and has a licence. There is a Spar supermarket at Tighnabruiach, 15 minutes’ drive from Home Farm, and there are also several supermarkets in Dunoon, approx. half an hour’s drive away.
